The Project for the Construction of Secondary Schools in Zambezia Province in the Republic of Mozambique

This project aims to improve access to secondary education and the quality of education in the Republic of Mozambique by constructing and equipping four new secondary schools in the province of Zambezia. While demand for secondary education in Mozambique is rapidly increasing due to the spread of primary education, the development of educational infrastructure has not kept pace, resulting in an overcrowded learning environment and inadequate facilities. In particular, Zambezia has the lowest enrollment rate in secondary education in the country, and there is an urgent need to correct the educational disparity.
In this project, four counties in Zambezia, namely Mocuba, Quelimane, Nicoadala, and Lugela, will be selected as target areas, and one secondary school will be constructed in each of these counties. In total, approximately 4,400 students will have the opportunity to attend school.
The main facilities to be constructed will consist of general classrooms, multipurpose classrooms (laboratories, IT classrooms, library, etc.), administrative and office facilities, men's and women's restrooms, gymnasiums, and teacher dormitories (only at two regional schools). In addition, basic furniture including desks and chairs for students, science experiment equipment, ICT equipment, and multifunction office machines will also be provided.
By providing appropriate educational facilities and a learning environment through this project, it is expected that students will be motivated to learn and improve their learning outcomes, and that girls in particular will be encouraged to continue attending school. The project will also support sustainable school management by adopting an inclusive school building design that includes gender and disability considerations. This is expected to contribute to the spread of secondary education and human capital development in the country, as well as to poverty reduction.
