The Project for the Construction of Secondary Schools Aimed at Promoting Inclusive Education
Background
In Lesotho, there is a shortage of secondary schools because of the rapid increase in enrollment of secondary school due to the introduction of free primary education. In addition, despite the policy of educating handicapped students in regular classes, disability-friendly schools and the learning environment is not well developed.
Therefore, the government of Lesotho has planned to build facilities for inclusive education, and implement "The Project for the Construction of Secondary Schools aimed at promoting Inclusive Education" with Japanese grant aid.
Project description
For this project, five sites have been selected in Lesotho. The project was designed to provide facilities and equipment for inclusive education by using local companies. In the design process, we considered the needs of the disability-friendly, cost reduction, and the climate of the Lesotho.
