The Project for the Development of Japan-Myanmer Aung San Vocational Training Institute

Background
Myanmar has a significant shortage of skilled workers needed by industry, which is an obstacle to economic growth, and therefore, human resource development and job creation through university education and vocational technical education and training (TVET) are priority policies. Vocational training institutions, which are expected to develop practical, skilled workers, have not been providing education and training based on the needs of industry and the private sector due to the low quality of their education and training. Under these circumstances, JICA has taken an overview of the current state of vocational technical education and training in the education sector in general, and a technical cooperation project and grant aid for the establishment of a new technical junior college were conceived.
Project Description
This project will construct the necessary facilities and procure training equipment for the newly established Junior College of Vocational Training (JMASVTI) in Yangon, the largest commercial city in the country, which will consist of the Automotive Technology Department and the Electrical Engineering Department. The plan was decided upon by incorporating the opinions of dispatched experts. Along the main road, the educational building with its impressive screen wall consists of general classrooms, electrical engineering laboratories, science laboratories, and an auditorium, and the automotive maintenance workshop is located behind the building. In addition to this, a student dormitory was planned but was subject to scope cuts for reopening as a result of a three-year hiatus due to the political upheaval that occurred in February 2021.
