Project description

This facility was constructed as a grant aid project of the Japanese Government to support and expand the comprehensive functional improvement of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Peradeniya, the only dental training institution in Sri Lanka.
The aim of the project was to build a facility and select equipment that would be suitable for the education and practice of modern dentistry, while being rooted in the natural and social conditions of Sri Lanka.
The facility consists of three buildings: the basic medical education building, the clinical education building and the student welfare building. The new faculty consists of 7 departments and 14 divisions, and the oral surgery department has 2 new operating rooms, an intensive care unit, and a 40-bed hospital ward.
In the management of the institute, mutual cooperation between the education and health sectors has been implemented and it is expected to train modern dentists and provide appropriate dental and medical services to the patients in Sri Lanka.
